Colors 2048 is the classic number puzzle painted in bright shades. Every tile is a colour, and merging two matching colours moves you to the next one along the ladder. Slide the tiles, keep your strongest colour in a corner and work through the whole spectrum to make a rainbow. Play free in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer, with nothing to install.

In the 1660s, Isaac Newton passed sunlight through a glass prism and showed that white light splits into a band of colours. He named seven of them, adding orange and indigo partly so the count would match the seven notes of a musical scale. The order red, orange, yellow, green, blue still guides how we describe a rainbow.

The 11 colour tiles

The first six tiles follow the order of the rainbow, from red at the long-wavelength end through orange, yellow, green and blue to purple. Pink comes next as a tint of red, made lighter with white, and brown is a darker shade of orange. Black and white sit near the top because they are special cases: black is what we see when no light reaches the eye, and white light contains every colour of the spectrum mixed together. The rainbow, all of them side by side, takes the 2048 tile.

Tips to win Colors 2048

  1. Keep your brightest colour in one corner and protect it. Once White sits there, keep swiping toward it so new colours line up in its row.
  2. Arrange the colours in order along one edge, like Black next to Brown next to Pink. A single merge then sets up the next merge along the row.
  3. Do not swipe away from your corner just to make one small merge. Waiting a move is better than letting a fresh Red tile fill your corner.

Colors 2048 FAQ

What is the final tile in Colors 2048?

The final tile is the Rainbow. It brings together every colour on the ladder, which is what happens in nature when sunlight is split by raindrops, so it makes the natural top tile.

Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, Pink, Brown, Black, White and Rainbow. The first six follow the rainbow itself, then come mixed shades and the special cases of black and white.

Is Colors 2048 good for young children?

Yes. The tiles show colour names with matching coloured circles, which makes them easy to recognise. The rules are simple and the game is free in any browser.

Can I play Colors 2048 offline?

You need an internet connection to load the page. Once it has loaded, the game runs in your browser and the board responds instantly to every swipe or key press.
