Space 2048 is the classic sliding-tile puzzle with a cosmic theme. Every tile is something bigger than the last, and merging two equal tiles takes you further out into the universe. Start with a speck of stardust and keep merging until you reach the Milky Way. It is free to play in your browser on a phone, tablet or computer.

The sizes on this ladder really do jump. The Sun is about 109 times wider than Earth, and Jupiter, the largest planet, is about 11 times wider. At the centre of the Milky Way sits Sagittarius A*, a supermassive black hole about four million times the mass of the Sun. Our galaxy holds that and hundreds of billions of stars.

The 11 space tiles

The ladder grows in scale. Stardust is the smallest tile, then a meteor streaking through the sky. Human-made objects come next: a satellite in orbit and the rocket that put it there. Then we move to real worlds, starting with the Moon, Earth, giant Jupiter and ringed Saturn. The Sun is the star at the centre of our solar system. Above it sits the black hole, named after Sagittarius A* at the heart of our galaxy. The 2048 tile is the Milky Way itself, the galaxy that contains every other tile on the board.

Guide

How to play Space 2048

Step 1 · Move

Slide every tile at once

Use your arrow keys ( ← ↑ ↓ → ) or W A S D to move the tiles.

All tiles slide as far as they can in that direction, and a new Stardust tile appears after every move.

Step 2 · Swipe

Play on your phone

On a phone or tablet, swipe anywhere on the board to move the tiles.

Your game is saved in your browser, so you can pick it up later on the same device.

Step 3 · Merge

Match two to unlock the next

When two tiles with the same picture touch, they merge into one.

Two Stardust tiles make Meteor, and every merge adds the new tile’s value to your score.

Step 4 · Goal

Reach the final tile

The goal is to build the 2048 tile: Milky Way.

You can keep playing after you reach it and chase an even higher score.

Tips to win Space 2048

  1. Keep your biggest tile anchored in one corner, like the Sun at the centre of an orbit. Build the Black Hole and Sun tiles next to it so they can merge into the Milky Way.
  2. Line up a falling chain such as Saturn, Jupiter, Earth, Moon along one edge. When a new Moon merges in, the whole row can grow into bigger worlds.
  3. Only press the direction that would pull your top tile away from its corner when nothing else works. One stray move can drop a small Stardust tile where your chain should go.
