Play Penguin 2048 online

Penguin 2048 is the classic merge puzzle with a waddle. Every tile is a real penguin species, and merging two of the same gives you a bigger one. Slide the board, keep your largest bird in a corner and try to reach the emperor penguin. It is free to play in your browser on a phone or computer, with no download.

Penguins live almost entirely in the Southern Hemisphere, and they vary a lot in size. The little penguin of Australia and New Zealand stands only about 30 to 33 centimetres tall, while an adult emperor penguin averages around 1.1 metres. The Galápagos penguin is the only species that lives at or just north of the equator.

The 11 penguin tiles

The ladder runs roughly from the smallest species to the largest. It starts with the little penguin, also called the little blue or fairy penguin, then the Galápagos and rockhopper penguins. The banded penguins come next: African, Humboldt and Magellanic, all from warmer coasts of Africa and South America. Adélie and chinstrap penguins are mid-sized Antarctic birds, and the gentoo is the third-largest species. The king penguin is second in size, and the emperor, which breeds through the Antarctic winter, takes the 2048 tile as the biggest penguin alive.

Tips to win Penguin 2048

  1. Keep your biggest penguin in one corner like a huddle on the ice. Once the King tile is there, keep swiping toward it so smaller species gather around.
  2. Build a row in size order, such as Adélie next to Chinstrap next to Gentoo. Merging the smallest one then lets the others slide together in the next move.
  3. Avoid moving away from your corner. If the corner opens, a fresh Little Penguin tile may pop in and leave your big bird stranded in the middle.
